Mission
The call to Carmel is a call to serve the Church through prayer and sacrifice. The vocation of a Carmelite nun is a call to a "hidden union with God" in friendship with Christ and in familiarity with the Blessed Virgin Mary. The sisters live together in a lifestyle which is that of a small family, and help one another toward sanctity. The Eucharist is at the heart of the community life. The sisters' charism is guided by their foundress, St. Teresa of Avila, and by St. John of the Cross. The essence of the Carmelite contemplative life is: living in the presence of God, in imitation of their most pure Mother Mary and the prophet Elijah, their spiritual founder who lived 900 years before Christ.
Qualifications
Sound mental and physical health; good judgment and common sense; high school education and some work experience. Ability to participate in the Divine Office.
Formation
Six months to one year postulancy; two years novitiate; three years temporary vows.
